A picture slideshow video made at one of our 2010 Summer VBS programs in
Indiana.
We do all the teaching, lead the original music, reinforce everything with
illusions and ventriloquism. We also provide animal twist balloons for
incentives. We then present a closing program for parents with the children
singing the songs they have learned and a very special entertaining program
that presents the Gospel message. Read the details below.
The following is a 9 min. sample video of a 90 min. VBS session.

Special
meetings geared for young people from a 4 year old through
fifth or sixth grades. The purpose being to lead the child into a closer walk
with God through His Son Jesus Christ. Biblical instruction is provided through
lessons, original songs, drama, ventriloquism (puppetry), and Gospel "magic"
tricks (illusions or puzzles for the eyes used as object lessons).
DURATION
Sensations
run for three to five days with a closing program held on a separate additional
day. Example: With a three day crusade the closing would be held on a fourth
day. The closing program is for the benefit of parents, friends, and members of
the congregation. The closing usually draws many visitors and is about an hour
in length. (The minister or other leader begins the closing program by greeting
the guests, having prayer and introducing us. The minister or other leader also
handles our offering.) The daily sessions are 90 minutes and are generally held
in the evening.
AGE
LIMITS
Due
to the fact that we teach in one large group no child may be younger than a
4 year old during class time. Many times children become distracted or are
distracting during classes with older children. Any child not yet 4 during lesson time becomes the
responsibility of the church and must be maintained in a suitable class or
nursery. A nursery is also essential for the infants of adult workers.
CLASSES
Following a
thirty-minute opening music segment, all ages are treated to a fast moving
dramatic Bible story or Biblical theme lesson. All activity is in the sanctuary.
Many lessons are taught with drama. Either Mike and Glenda act out the parts or
children are chosen to portray the characters. Balloon (twist balloon) or other
props are used as visual aides. The children pay attention to this live action
storytelling.
NOTE: Prior
to the designated starting time, as the children are arriving, they must be kept
under multiple adult supervision in an area other than the sanctuary.
Registration and any organized activity during this time are the responsibility
of the church. Certain adults should be assigned to these tasks.
ADULT
HELP IS
NEEDED
We need a mature group of volunteers to help with
discipline. One adult for every ten children is the minimum needed. Some of
these should arrive early (30 minutes or more) to greet and register the
children. They then gather them someplace other than the sanctuary until it is
time to begin. They should also be prepared to entertain the children with an
organized activity. It is important to encourage the use of the bathroom, and to
discuss sanctuary dos and don’ts (no gum, no hats, no child holding another on
their lap, sing, pay attention, etc.) during this period.
ADULT
HELP NEEDED
Adults
should also sit in with the children, (not at the back of the sanctuary), during
music and lesson times to help keep order. They should position themselves
beside known A.D.D. (Attention Deficit Disorder) children first. They also
should try to participate in the singing, actions, and other activities. In
every way they should be an example to be imitated. These adults as well as the
entire church should pray for the success of the sensation.
ATTENDANCE
INCENTIVES
At each church's choice: Balloons
are given to every child the first and last days of the sensation. The other
day’s balloons are given as rewards to those who bring new, first time
students. First time students will also receive a balloon for coming.
SANCTUARY
PLATFORM NOTE
Since the sanctuary serves as our main
teaching and worship area, and will contain our music equipment and other
expensive gear; we ask that it remain off-limits to the children during the
sensation tenure. This includes before and after sensation hours. In the past we
have discovered unattended children playing with our expensive gear. We have
also had items stolen or damaged.
SANCTUARY NOTE II
Before
our arrival please clear the platform of the pulpit and any other furniture that
can be moved without too much trouble.
EXTRA ACTIVITIES
Any
activities other than our work with the sensation must be cleared with us in
advance of our arrival by at least one week. Extra activities will incur
additional charges or offerings, if accepted.
PERSONAL NEEDS
We
ask that only our noon meals be provided. For that meal our preference is a
restaurant tab if possible. Please give us a list of
those providing (donating or paying for) meals when we first arrive. Include names, and phone numbers. No
meal needs to be provided on our arrival day.
HOOKUPS
We need to
hookup our 33-foot travel trailer at the church. We have the necessary
electric cords and water hoses. We will need one 110 volt 20 amp outlet for the
electric, and one water outlet within 75 feet of our parking area.
KEY NEEDED
We
request a key to have access to the church during our stay. We ask that the
building be locked overnight due to our expensive equipment that will be stored
there.
FINANCIAL NEEDS
We ask a
minimum of __(Call Us)__ plus the entire offering taken at the closing program (and
any other agreed to offerings) for any length crusade (typically 3-4 days). We will provide you with a receipt upon request. We also carry
audiocassette tapes, posters and other materials to sell. The checks from the
offering can be added to the base fee, (including all checks written to the
church for income tax purposes), so that only one main check is written. The
treasurer’s check is to be made out to Mike Mann. We ask that this check be
given to us before our departure and NOT mailed to us.
NOTE:
To
get a clear picture of our situation consider we are two full time adult
workers, not one, so once the finances are divided by two and our expenses are
figured in, there is little left. This is why we ask that no competing offerings
be taken at the closing program. We also ask that no other materials be sold
during the tenure or at the closing program. We depend as much on the closing
offering and sales for our financial survival as we do the base fee. Our
expenses are extremely high and our Sensation income helps us to survive the
rest of the year. Please remember that we do this for a living, it is not a
hobby.
What your gift to Mike and Glenda Mann does:
It
supports Mike and Glenda as two individual full-time missionaries to children.
They have no other jobs. They are independent and receive no regular sponsorship
from any church, denomination, or organization. They pay for their own medical
insurances, retirement, housing, travel, vehicle payments, and upkeep and
maintenance expenses.Your
donations are a major portion of their support and help keep this ministry
alive.
